Academic Success Factors Report
Academic success is impacted by non-academic factors including transportation, out-of-school time care and programming, physical well-being, mental health, family dynamics, and housing. These factors become non-academic barriers to success when their presence or absence detracts from learning. Non-academic barriers are not peripheral concerns—they can influence whether students arrive at school ready to learn, attend school consistently, achieve academic success, and graduate prepared for life.
This interactive data dashboard, compiled by Indiana Lifelong Learning Projects, Inc. for the Opportunity to Learn Project, highlights many of the non-academic factors that students in Indiana may experience, identifies several early indicators that students’ academic success may be influenced by non-academic barriers, and provides several measures of academic success for students in each public school corporation or charter school in Indiana. The non-academic factors and measures of academic success included here are not intended to be comprehensive, and Opportunity to Learn Project applicants are encouraged to consider additional data as they prepare a competitive grant proposal.
